Red Wolves Continue Undefeated Start With Shutout Win Over UCA

JONESBORO, Ark. (8/26/11) – Goals from freshman Jessica Jingblad and senior Kara Nitti in the first 13 minutes of action lifted the Arkansas State women's soccer team to a 2-0 win past Central Arkansas Friday.

The Red Wolves continued their undefeated start improving to 2-0-1 while the Sugar Bears fell to 1-2 with both losses coming to Sun Belt opponents.

“We put away a stubborn side thanks to a fast start,” said ASU head coach Tafadzwa Ziyenge. We defended very well the second half and remained unsatisfied with our lead.”

Jingblad scored off a forward pass from Ashley McMurtry to score from 10 yards out in just the second minute of the match (1:58). Jingblad then sent the ball to Nitti in the 13th minute (12:03) who scored to improve the lead for A-State 2-0 from 12-yards out from the left side.

Freshman goalkeeper Bethany Kremer faced just two shots through the game, making both saves to record her first shutout of her collegiate career.

Jingblad had five shots, four of which were on goal to lead ASU to a 10-5 advantage in the contest, including taking seven shots on goal to UCA's two.

The Red Wolves return to action on Sunday when they travel to Cape Girardeau to face SEMO at 1 p.m.
