ASU Soccer Falls At UTM

JONESBORO, Ark. (9/2/11) – Arkansas State powered back from a 4-0 deficit but their rally fell short as time expired with the host Tennessee-Martin Skyhawks in the lead 4-2 over the Red Wolves soccer team Friday night.

The Red Wolves fell to 2-2-1 while UTM improved to 4-1 on the campaign.

UTM raced out to a 4-0 lead with goals by Midori Sera, Camilla Buoni, Alyssa Curtis and Rosalita Loza.

The Red Wolves drew blood in the 84th and 87th minutes to mount a comeback but were unable to net the equalizer.

Kelsey Finders took a feed from Katie Hosea which deflected off a UTM defender and scored the first goal for the Red Wolves at the 83:58 mark.

Christine Giles then scored on a header which was served up by Alex Furr with 3:10 remaining in the contest.

“At the end of the day our team understands that at this point we've won as many games as we have lost. Today the girls, while down by four goals, found a way to fight back and score twice,” said ASU head coach Tafadzwa Ziyenge. “With time we will figure out how to bring that intense fight over 90 minutes.”

UTM outshot ASU 19-16 taking 13 shots on goal to the Red Wolves nine. Ashley Jackson led ASU with three shots while Buoni had five shots to lead the Skyhawks.

Bethany Kremer made a season-high nine saves in goal for the Red Wolves, playing the entire 90 minutes of action.

ASU returns home to face UAPB on Sunday at 4 p.m.
