Red Wolves Soccer Defeated At MTSU

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (9/30/11) – The Arkansas State women's soccer team suffered its second loss in Sun Belt Conference action dropping a 3-0 decision to Middle Tennessee Friday night.

The loss drops A-State to 3-6-2 on the season and 1-2 in conference play. MTSU improved to 4-7 with a 1-2 record in Sun Belt action.

“This is a very well coached side whose record doesn't reflect how talented they are,” said ASU head coach Tafadzwa Ziyenge. “We put up a fight and were unlucky not to convert on some chances.”

MTSU got on the board in the 41st minute (40:34) when Allison Stallard converted a penalty kick. The Blue Raiders also scored goals in the 50th (49:18) and 72nd (71:48) by Shan Jones and Melissa Erturk.

MTSU outshot the Red Wolves 19-8 and took 12 shots on goal to ASU's one.

Freshman goalkeeper Aja Aguirre made a season-high nine saves, for the second straight game, in goal for the Red Wolves. Ashley McMurtry and Kelsey Finders led A-State with two shots each.

ASU returns to action on Sunday at 1 p.m. when they continue their Sun Belt Conference road trip at Western Kentucky.
