JONESBORO, Ark. (11/12/12) – Sophomore Kristina Aubert of the 2012 Arkansas State University women's cross country team has been tabbed as an all-region selection per an announcement made this Monday (Nov. 12) by the United States Track and Field/Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).

Aubert is also on the verge of becoming the first-ever Red Wolves' athlete in her sport to compete in the national championships, which are slated to be held this Saturday (Nov. 17).

“We are so proud of Kristina earning all-region honors and becoming the first cross country athlete in ASU history to earn a spot at the NCAA (Division I) Championships,” said ASU coach Jim Patchell.  “This is a very positive sign for her as well as our program.”

Aubert, who was one of over 200 women student-athletes nationally to receive NCAA Division I Women's Cross Country All-Region accolades, achieved the recognition as a result of placing within the top 25 runners at one of the nine regional sites.  Aubert paced the regionally ninth-ranked Red Wolves at the 2012 South Central Regional Championships last Friday (11/9) in Fayetteville, Ark., with a seventh-place 21:11.20 time as A-State posted a program record-setting ninth-place finish with 233 total team points.  

With her notable 6K regional race placing, Aubert earned the opportunity to compete in this Saturday's 2012 NCAA Division I Cross Country Championships at E.P. “Tom” Sawyer State Park in Louisville, Ky.  The women's race is scheduled to get underway at 11 a.m. (CT) and a live webcast of the championships will be broadcasted on NCAA.com.          

A 2012 All-Sun Belt Conference (SBC) First-Team selection, Aubert also earned conference runner of the week plaudits this fall (10/3).  Aubert was one of two Sun Belt Conference member representatives, joining senior Josephine Adams of North Texas.
