A-State Soccer Falls to Appalachian State 1-0

JONESBORO, Ark. (9/28/14) – The Arkansas State women's soccer team fell to Appalachian State 1-0 in a Sun Belt Conference matchup Sunday afternoon at the A-State Soccer Complex.

The Mountaineers' Jenna Caudle had the game's only goal in the 35th minute on a header that sailed into the back of the net. The goal was setup by Sarah Moon who kicked the ball into space for Nicole Steyl who then kicked the ball to the front of the goal and to the waiting head of Caudle who then headed the ball by Amanda Lee for the goal.

Lee was tested early and made two saves off corner kicks in the 14th and 15th minutes. She finished the afternoon with seven saves, including five in the first half.

A-State (3-8, 0-2 Sun Belt Conference) found success early in the game and had two shot attempts that narrowly miss the mark in the first five minutes. Jenna Duerst had a header attempt blocked in the fifth minute and Tayler Carter had her corner kick shot attempt blocked a minute later. Lauren Crimi also had a good look on goal in the 11th minute, but the attempt was saved by Megan Roberson.

Late in the game, A-State was able to put pressure on the Appalachian State (5-6, 2-0) defense and benefited from a yellow card just outside the box on Appalachian State's Logan White, but the Red Wolves failed to take advantage of the close free kick.

Mykel Ward also had a good luck at the goal in the 88th minute when her shot bent back toward the goal, but sailed just wide of the far post for what would have been the game's equalizer.

Seven different Red Wolves took shots in the game, including Crimi, Ava Abner and Sutton Wester who all had shots land on goal. Crimi, Ward and Duerst led the team with two shots each.
