NEW ORLEANS, La. (1/21/15) – Arkansas State track and field freshmen Jaylen Bacon and Darragh May earned Sun Belt Conference weekly honors, the league office announced Wednesday.
Bacon, who is the Male Track Athlete of the Week for the second-straight week, was the top collegiate finisher in the 60-meter dash at the UK Invitational. Bacon broke the school record in the event in 6.75 seconds. He also posted the top 200-meter time, crossing the line in 21.48 seconds. Bacon holds the top two times among Sun Belt athletes in the 200-meter and sits third in the 60-meter dash.
May, the Female Field Athlete of the Week, jumped to a second place finish in the high jump with a leap of 1.78m (5-10.000). With the jump, May improved her personal best by two inches and her mark is the highest jump in the Sun Belt Conference since February of 2013. May ranks 17th in the NCAA and No. 1 among her Sun Belt Conference competitors.
A-State competes at the Convocation Center the next two weekends with the Scarlet and Black Invitational beginning Saturday at 10 a.m.
