BOONE, N.C. (9/25/15) – The Arkansas State women's soccer fell 2-1 in its Sun Belt Conference opener at Appalachian State on Friday night.

A-State (2-8, 0-1 SBC) fell behind 2-0 in the first 15 minutes, but scored right before the end of the first half on a goal by Katherine Padgett to cut the deficit in half.

Padgett headed the ball in on a corner kick by Tayler Carter in the 40th minute to give the Red Wolves' momentum going into the halftime break, but Appalachian State's defense limited the Red Wolves' opportunities in the second half.

The Mountaineers (5-3-2, 1-0 SBC) scored an early in the second minute when Jane Cline was awarded a penalty kick after she was taken down in the box. Appalachian State added to its lead in the 14th minute when Emmily Cowie scored on a header after she collected a loose ball around the net to put the Red Wolves down by two goals early in the game.

Sophomore Alexis Philippe earned the start in goal for Arkansas State and made five saves, including four in the first half.

Arianna Delli Carpini and Padgett had both shots on goal for the Red Wolves, while Loren Mitchell and Jenna Duerst each had shots in the match.
