JONESBORO, Ark. (11/10/16) – Arkansas State head volleyball coach David Rehr announced Thursday that six players have chosen to continue their volleyball careers as members of the A-State program.
Madison Brown (Cabot, Ark.), Timber Terrell (Wheeling, Ill.), Tatum Ticknor (Grapevine, Texas), Peyton Uhlenhake (Overland Park, Kan.), Sara Betts (Marion, Ark.), and Sheridan Webb (Southlake, Texas) are all set to become Red Wolves in the 2017 campaign.
Brown, who prepped at Cabot High School, led the state of Arkansas in 2016 as a senior with 492 kills (4.82 per set) and was recently named an Honorable Mention AVCA/Under Armour All-American. The outside hitter, who stands at 6-1, was a three-year starter at CHS and won All-Conference accolades all of those years, along with All-State honors in 2014 and 2016. Additionally, she was an AVCA/Under Armour Phenom in 2015 and ended her high school career with 998 kills, 502 digs, 165 blocks, and 151 aces. She played club volleyball for Fatchmo Volley most recently.
“Madison is a powerful hitter from the Natural State,” Rehr stated. “She will be a versatile outside with a solid arm that has potential to contribute right away on the court.”
Terrell, a 5-11 middle blocker, was a four-year letter winner for Wheeling High School and was an All-Conference and All-Area selection from 2015-17. She totaled more than 1,000 career kills, including a team-high 397 as a senior when she led the team to a regional championship and co-division championship. She was tops on the team in serve-receive efficiency, hitting efficiency, digs (397), and blocks (73). Additionally, she was a standout track and field athlete for the Wildcats.
“Timber is a freak athlete that has an impressive vertical jump,” said Rehr. “She can play multiple positions in the front row, but will primarily play middle blocker.”
Ticknor, who prepped at Colleyville Heritage High School, is a four-year letter winner for the Lady Panthers. CHHS is currently in the state playoffs, but she currently leads the team and district in digs. The 5-8 libero/defensive specialist has won a Dallas-Fort Worth Player of the Week award this season and has been a team captain the past two seasons. She was named an AVCA/Under Armour Phenom in 2015 and was a two-time, Second-Team All-District selection. Additionally, she was named a Prep Volleyball Defensive Dandy as a sophomore in 2014.
“Tatum is a solid defender and passer that vie for the libero position immediately,” continued Rehr. “She has great vision in the court and her ability to communicate with others will prove to be a huge asset as move forward with this new class of freshmen.”
Uhlenhake (pronounced YOUL-in-HAKE) is a 5-10 outside hitter with three letters under her belt in addition to serving as a team captain as a senior. She helped lead Blue Valley West High School to a 40-4 record and Kansas State High School Activities Association (KSHSAA) 6A State Championship as a junior before the Jaguars registered a 42-2 mark and 6A State Runner-Up finish in 2016. Additionally, she's a two-time All-State selection, two-time All-Eastern Kansas League honoree, and three-time Kansas Volleyball Association All-Academic First-Team member. She was named to the AVCA/Under Armour Phenom List in 2014 and 2015 and was on the AVCA/Under Armour All-American Watch List this season.
“Uhlenhake is an explosive six rotation outside hitter,” Rehr added. “She is a fantastic leader and all-around great athlete that will bring an incredible amount of maturity with this freshman class.”
Betts, who was a four-year letter winner for Marion High School, is a three-time All-Conference selection and was named to the 6A All-State Tournament team the past three seasons. MHS has been to three straight 6A State Championship games and won the championship during her junior season. The 5-10 outside hitter won an AVCA/Under Armour Phenom award as a senior and was also named the Marion Chamber of Commerce Player of the Week once this year.
“Sara is an outside hitter that can play opposite and is a local product,” Rehr declared. “She has a strong arm and an ability to play multiple positions. She was a standout for a 6A team in Marion and we feel that she will be a contributing factor at some point next year.”
Webb, a 5-11 setter, has helped Southlake Carroll High School to a 42-6 mark this season as a senior with the Lady Dragons currently in the playoffs. She helped lead her club team, Skyline, to the national championship in 2015 and was named to the all-tournament team in the 2016 national competition. She was the top server for Skyline with 101 aces. Additionally, she garnered academic all-state honors.
“Sheridan has played at a very high level in high and club volleyball,” Rehr praised. “Her experience at a high level definitely prepares her for the expectations she will have coming in.”
The Red Wolves wrap up the regular season Friday, Nov. 11 with a match at in-state rival Little Rock. First serve from the Jack Stephens Center is set for 3:30 p.m.
