JONESBORO, Ark. (3/12/16) – The Arkansas State women's tennis team lost to Eastern Illinois by score of 4-0 Saturday morning at the indoor courts at RidgePointe Country Club.
A-State had a competitive effort in several of the single's competition including the No. 1 singles match where Julie Gauguery and Kelly Iden battled to an unfinished score. Iden took the first set by a score of 6-4, but Gauguery bounced back for a 7-6 victory in set 2. The A-State junior was down 3-4 in the third set when the match was called.
Sabina Jeresic also had a strong showing in the No. 4 match and was tied with Hannah Kimbrough 2-2 in the second set before the match was stopped.
“We need to continue to improve in all areas,” A-State head tennis coach Kel Lange said. “We had some very competitive matches, but the match had already been decided by the time it could have an impact on the score.”
In the No. 2 match, Victoria Roberts lost to Ali Foster 6-2, 6-0, while Grace Summers defeated the Red Wolves' Chiara Stefanov 6-0, 6-0 in the No. 3 match. Sofia Krsmanovic lost to Srishti Slaria 6-4, 6-0 in the No. 5 match.
In doubles' competition Gauguery and Roberts lost to Summers and Kimbrough 6-4, while Stefanov and Jeresic fell to Slaria and Kamile Stadalninkati 6-1.
