JONESBORO, Ark. (9/18/17) – Arkansas State's Drew Jones and Kenzie Fields were named the Sun Belt Conference Offensive Player of the Week and Setter of the Week, respectively, Monday afternoon in an announcement by the league office.
Jones earned her fifth career All-Tournament accolade this past weekend at the Rice adidas Invitational II when she led the Red Wolves with 44 kills (3.67 per set) on a .203 hitting percentage. Additionally, the Fort Smith, Ark., native posted 24 digs, seven blocks, five assists, and an ace as A-State went 2-1 at the tournament with wins over Georgetown and Stephen F. Austin. This weekly award is the third of her career after she won two Freshman of the Week honors in 2014.
A native of Bartlett, Tenn., Fields has been filling in as the squad's setter while the other two are nursing injuries. Normally an outside hitter, the Setter of the Week award is the first of her career, but her third career weekly award after winning Freshman of the Week twice last season. She handed out 125 assists for a 10.42 per set average this past weekend. Additionally, she added 44 digs, 10 kills, four blocks, and three service aces in the three matches.
Arkansas State returns to action with its Sun Belt Conference opener against Coastal Carolina Friday, Sept. 22. First serve from the Convocation Center in Jonesboro, Ark., is set for 6:30 p.m.
