BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (1/25/19) – The Arkansas State tennis team dropped the spring season opener Saturday at Samford 6-1.
The Red Wolves fell behind dropping the doubles points with losses on courts one and three. Pornpawee Pramethong and Berta Madevall Masip lost 6-1 while Shannon O'Brien and Allison Quammen lost 6-2.
In singles' matches, Shelby King earned the lone victory for the Red Wolves. King defeated Grace Jennings 6-3, 7-5 on court two. Pramethong lost on court one 1-6, 3-6, while Masdevall Masip suffered a 5-7, 3-6 setback on court three. O'Brien won the first set in battle (6-3), but Natalia De Ugarte rallied back to defeat O'Brien with scores of 3-6, 0-6. Jill Morse fell 3-6, 4-6 and Samford clinched the outcome with Arianna Beltrame defeating Amelia Guevremont 2-6, 3-6.
A-State continues the spring schedule tomorrow in Birmingham against UAB. Match time is set for 12:00 p.m.
