JONESBORO, Ark. (10/12/20) – A hole-in-one by Kayla Burke was a highlight on day one of the 2020 Lady Red Wolves Classic, held at Sage Meadows Country Club in Jonesboro, as Arkansas State women's golf sits tied for third after 36 holes on Monday.
The Red Wolves enter Tuesday's final round tied with Central Arkansas in third, one stroke behind second-place Troy and 12 strokes behind leader South Alabama. A-State's Olivia Schmidt is tied for fourth at 2-under 142 after two rounds, carding a 2-under 70 in her second round after an even-par 72 in her first 18. The 36-hole score is a season best for Schmidt. Julie Hovland of South Alabama sits atop the leaderboard at 7-under 137.
The Red Wolves recorded a first-round 288 (E) that featured Burke's ace on par-3 hole 13. Grayson Gladden paced the Scarlet and Black after round one with a 1-under 71. After one round, A-State was in a three-way tie for second with Central Arkansas and Troy while BYU's Allysha Mae Mateo sat atop the player leaderboard after the first 18 holes, carding a 4-under 68.
In the second round, Schmidt worked her way up the standings from the start with an eagle on the par-5 hole 1 and a birdie on hole 3, another par-5. After a bogeyed ninth hole, the sophomore remained even on the back nine to finish two-under.
Gladden enters Tuesday tied for 20th, while Elise Schultz is tied for 24th with a season-best 36-hole score of 149. Burke (T42nd) and Madison Smith (T51st) round out A-State's lineup. Sydni Leung, competing individually, is currently tied for 20th at 4-over 148. Maria Jose Atristain Vega is tied for 31st and Kiley Rodrigues is tied for 75th to round out all Arkansas State players in the field.
