RIO VERDE, Ariz. (2/21/20) – Coming off a tournament title in the first event of spring, the Arkansas State women's golf team stands second following the first round of the Rio Verde Invitational at White Wing Golf Course.
A-State is two strokes behind leader Xavier (+9) to rank second among the 18-team field. The Red Wolves carded a first round 299 (+11) to stand three strokes ahead of third place Northern Illinois and six ahead of fourth place Ball State.
Senior Grayson Gladden is tied for the individual lead after a first round 1-under (71). Freshman Elise Schultz is tied for seventh after carding a 73 (+1) while sophomore Olivia Schmidt is tied for 24th after a first round 76 (+4). Junior Maria Jose Atristain Vega is tied for 47th after a 79 (+7) and sophomore Madison Smith is tied for 79th after an 83 (+11).
The second round is scheduled for Saturday.
