OPELIKA, Ala. (3/7/20) – In a tournament featuring three other top-50 ranked teams, the Arkansas State men's golf team is seventh among 20 teams at the Tiger Invitational played at Grand National Lake Course in Opelika, Ala.
Host and No. 15 Auburn leads the tournament after a first round 279 (-9). ULM (-8) is second with the Auburn 'B' (-4) squad third and Louisiana Tech (-1) fourth. Kentucky and Western Kentucky are tied for fifth at 3-over while Toledo and North Alabama join the Red Wolves in a tie for seventh at 4-over (292). A-State, which is ranking No. 40 by Golfweek and No. 45 by Golfstat, is ahead of No. 43 Charlotte (+8) and No. 41 James Madison (+11) after 18 holes.
Senior Julien Sale had the low round for A-State as he is tied for 12th after a 2-under 70. Sale eagled the par five fourth and added three birdies on the day. Junior Michael Weppernig is tied for 21st following an even-par 72 and senior Zan Luka Stirn is tied for 36th after a 2-over 74. Sophomore Jack Madden totaled a 4-over 76 to rank tied for 54th and freshman Adam Thorp finished at 5-over 77 to stand tied for 65th.
The second-round tees off Monday with the third and final round scheduled for Tuesday.
