JONESBORO, Ark. (6/28/20) – After registering a respectable 3.36 GPA for the 19-20 academic year, the Arkansas State baseball team claimed one of the American Baseball Coaches Association Team Academic Excellence awards, announced by the ABCA Tuesday.
Â
The Red Wolves were one of 420 programs from all levels of collegiate baseball and high school baseball to earn an award. A-State was just one of 63 Division I teams to be honored and is the only DI program in the state to receive this award.Â
Â
Arkansas State, along with Georgia Southern and Louisiana were the only Sun Belt schools to claim this honor.
Â
The American Baseball Coaches Association has a long tradition of recognizing the achievements of baseball coaches and student-athletes. The ABCA/Rawlings All-America Teams are the nation's oldest, founded in 1949, and the ABCA's awards program also includes the ABCA/Rawlings All-Region Awards, the ABCA/Diamond Regional & National Coaches of the Year and several other major awards such as the ABCA Hall of Fame and the Ethics in Coaching Award.
Â
Teams from every level of college and high school baseball were honored with the award, which recognizes teams coached by ABCA members that posted a GPA of over 3.0 on a 4.0 scale for the 2019-20 academic year.
