ARLINGTON, Texas (11/5/21) – On Friday night at the College Park Center, the Arkansas State volleyball team dropped a 3-0 decision to UT Arlington.
Elise Wilcox led the Red Wolves (14-12, 5-9 SBC) with 12 kills while Julianna Cramer notched a double-double with 23 assists and 10 digs. UTA (8-14, 6-7) relied on early momentum in all three sets to take the match.
A-State out-dug the Mavericks 58-56, but UTA held the Scarlet and Black to an attack percentage of just .105 on the night.
Tatum Ticknor led all players with 18 digs while Brianna Hollingshed knocked down a pair of blocks.
UTA opened to an early 5-1 lead, forcing a Red Wolves timeout, before upping that lead to 10-3. A-State battled back with a 3-0 run later to cut it to 15-10, but the Mavericks held on for a 25-17 opening-set victory to lead 1-0 in the match.
The Mavericks surged ahead in the second set, leading 8-0 before a kill by Elizabeth Phillips put A-State on the board. That lead increased to as much as 10 before the Red Wolves clawed back to tie up the set at 20-all. After A-State knotted up the set at 23 on a kill by Macey Putt, UTA's Briana Brown recorded a pair of kills to end the set and give her team a 2-0 lead in the contest.
A-State kept the third set close early before the Mavericks went ahead 10-4 and continued to hold a steady lead until the Red Wolves went on a late 7-2 surge, including saving three match points to cut it to 24-19. UTA's Brooke Townsend ended things, however, with a kill.
