JONESBORO, Ark. (2/7/21) – Wrapping up the first weekend of the spring schedule, the Arkansas State women's team fell in a non-conference matchup to SEMO 4-1 on Sunday at the indoor courts at RidgePointe Country Club.
A-State (0-2) swept the doubles' point with Thea Rice and Nejla Zukic taking a 6-3 decision over Kseniya Zonova and Teona Velkoska on court one. Jill Morse and Yasmine Humbert earned a 6-3 victory over Ksenia Shikanova and Vivian Lai on court three to seal the double's point. Shelby King and Amelia Guevremont completed the doubles' sweep with a 6-2 win over Romana Tarajova and Daniela Hlacikova.
SEMO (1-1) captured four singles' victories, but the Red Wolves took two of those matches to three sets. Rice took the first set against Zonova 6-3, but Zonova rallied back to take the matchup with 6-3, 6-4 decisions. Morse dropped the first set against Romana Tarajova 7-6, but took the second set 6-4, Tarajova came away with a 6-3 decision in the deciding third set on court two.
Hlacikova defeated King (6-0, 6-2) in straight sets while Shikanova edged Zukic 7-5, 7-5. The two teams elected to play out the final two singles matches that did not count toward the final 4-1 score. Lai came away with a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Humbert while Guevremont won 8-4 over Velkoska.
