SAN MARCOS, Texas (3/21/21) – After dropping a close doubles point and getting down 3-0 in the match, the Arkansas State women's tennis team stormed back to claim an exciting 4-3 victory at Texas State Sunday afternoon.

With the victory, A-State improved to 4-4, 2-2 in Sun Belt Conference play, while Texas State dropped to 4-6, 3-3 in league action.

The Red Wolves tandem of
Shelby King and
Jill Morse grabbed the first win in doubles with a 6-2 victory over Nikita Pradeep and Chacadyah Israel-Lewis. However, the Bobcats took the doubles point with wins on court three and court one. Sofia Murcia-Rodriguez and Renata Gonzalez picked up a 6-3 decision over
Nejla Zukic and
Yasmine Humbert and Hana Kvapilova and Rishona Israel-Lewis edged the tandem of
Thea Rice and
Hunter Roper 7-5 to clinch the doubles point.

Following singles wins by the Bobcats at No. 6 singles and No. 1 singles, A-State faced a 3-0 deficit. The comeback began with King defeating Pradeep 6-4, 6-0 and Zukic followed with a 6-4, 7-5 triumph over Chadadyah Israel-Lewis. Roper evened the score at 3-3 with a 6-3, 7-5 win over Rishona Israel-Lewis to force the deciding match on court number five.
Amelia Guevremont clinched the match for the Red Wolves with the decisive 6-7 (7-9), 7-6 (10-8), 6-2 thriller.
