LEADING OFF
  • The 2021 campaign marks the program's 74th season with the Red Wolves amassing a 1,337-1,651-10 all-time record dating back to the inaugural 1948 season.
  • The Red Wolves are looking to halt a five-game skid on Tuesday versus Murray State, facing the Racers for the second time this season.
  • Tuesday's contest is Arkansas State's lone home game in its current 10-game stretch, having played six consecutive on the road.
  • Murray State owns a slight 52-50-1 lead in the overall series. Under Tommy Raffo, A-State is 9-2 versus the Racers.
  • A-State enters the weekend series ranked second in the Sun Belt Conference in home runs per game (1.07) as of 3/22. The Red Wolves have passed last season's homers tally through 15 games (14), with 16 this season. The Red Wolves have also done so in the doubles column, totaling 26 this season. Through 15 games last year, A-State hit 18.
  • Freshman Brandon Hudson is set to make his first career start on Tuesday after seeing time in five relief appearances.
"DOUBLE VISION"
  • Arkansas State ranks among the top half of the Sun Belt Conference in doubles per game, averaging 1.73 entering Tuesday's midweek contest, which ranks fifth in the league.
  • Ben Klutts ranks third in the conference with six doubles and leads the league with 0.40 per game. Drew Tipton is the clubhouse career leader with 30.

"WALK THE LINE"

  • The late Arkansas native Johnny Cash's hit song has played often after Drew Tipton trots 90 feet to first after four balls this season. The senior has drawn 13 walks so far this season, 0.87 per game, both of which rank inside the top five in the conference.
  • The Bryant, Arkansas, native enters the week eighth in program history in career bases on balls (90).

"DON'T RUB IT!"

  • While we're on the subject of free passes drawn, Tipton is also among the nation's leaders in hit-by-pitches, having been plunked 6 times this season. That is second in the league and is among the top 40 nationally entering the weekend.
  • Ben Klutts has also been hits six times, ranking second in the conference and 40th in the NCAA along with Tipton.
