JONESBORO, Ark. (4/1/21) – Success on the course and in the classroom has been a hallmark of the Arkansas State cross country program in recent years, and that continued Thursday as both the men's and women's programs were represented in the USTFCCCA's All-Academic Awards.
Both the men's and women's teams earned All-Academic Team distinction for the second year in a row, with Bennett Pascoe, Pauline Meyer and Sophie Leathers earning All-Academic Athlete honors due to their top-five finish in the Sun Belt Conference Championships.
In order to qualify, teams must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale while student-athletes must have a GPA of at least 3.25 and finish in the top-five at their respective conference championships or participate in the NCAA Championships.
The A-State women, who won their second straight conference title, posted a cumulative 3.65 GPA as one of four teams from the Sun Belt Conference to be honored. Meyer and Leathers were two of just five individuals to earn the individual honors from the league. Meyer placed second at the conference meet, while Leathers place fourth.
On the men's side, the Red Wolves compiled a 3.58 GPA and were one of four league members on the list. Pascoe was one of just two honorees hailing from the Sun Belt Conference after representing the league at the NCAA Championships following his program-first individual conference crown.
A total of 199 men's teams qualified, while 187 athletes earned individual distinction while 233 women's teams were honored – 269 individuals.
