LEADING OFF
  • The 2021 campaign marks the program's 74th season with the Red Wolves amassing a 1,344-1,658-10 all-time record dating back to the inaugural 1948 season.
  • The Red Wolves are entering the midweek contest after salvaging the third game of a three-game Sun Belt Conference series at home versus UT Arlington, defeating the Mavericks 5-3 on Sunday. A-State is opening an eight-game road swing to end the month of April, not returning to the friendly confines of Tomlinson Stadium until May 7.
  • Arkansas State owns a 21-14 lead in the overall series versus Central Arkansas. The teams were originally scheduled to meet in Jonesboro on April 6, but COVID-19 issues within UCA's program forced the meeting to be postponed. MORE ON PAGE 3.
  • Ben Klutts is riding a team-best eight-game hitting streak entering the weekend. During that stretch, Klutts is hitting .387 with two doubles and a home run, while slugging .548 with an on-base percentage of .500. MORE ON PAGE 3.
  • Jaylon Deshazier has reached base in 18 straight games - a career long for the Pine Bluff native. Deshazier is hitting .308 during that stint, slugging .569 with three doubles, a tripe and four homers.
  • A-State pitching has tossed two quality starts in the last three games, with Brandon Hudson and Carter Holt doing so Friday and Sunday versus UT Arlington.
NATURAL STATE SUCCESS
  • The last time Arkansas State faced a team from the state of Arkansas, the Red Wolves swept in-state rival Little Rock, shutting down one of the hottest teams in the Sun Belt at the time. A-State held the hot-hitting Trojans to a .192 average and outscored them 24-8 in three contests.
  • Most notably, A-State held Little Rock scoreless through 23 1/3 innings Friday through the first four innings on Saturday. The Trojans were held to just 4 for 24 (.167) with runners in scoring position, 0 for 12 through the first two games.
  • A-State is 3-0 this season versus foes from the Natural State.
TIPTON RISING UP CAREER CHARTS
  • Drew Tipton is rising up the career charts this season, ranking inside the top 10 in multiple offensive categories.
  • The Bryant, Arkansas, native ranks fifth in both hit-by-pitches (35) and stolen bases (53), sixth all-time in runs scored (138) and eighth in bases on balls (98). He needs just four at-bats to move into a tie for 10th all-time in career at-bats (663 as of 4/19).
STONE COLD
  • With saves at Louisiana (4/11) and on Sunday versus UT Arlington, Kollin Stone moved up the career saves list in A-State history. The Lake City native is currently tied for third all-time with Tim Egart (2006-07) and Blake Ring (2003-05) with 11. He needs just one to tie current Kansas City Royal Tyler Zuber for second with 12.
