Red Wolves Close Non-Conference Play with 1-0 Win at Central Arkansas

CONWAY, Ark. (9/12/21) – Freshman forward Emma Riley scored her first career goal and senior goalkeeper Megan McClure secured her 25th career shutout as the Arkansas State women's soccer team closed non-conference play with 1-0 win at Central Arkansas Sunday evening.
 
The victory secured the 50th win in head coach Brian Dooley's tenure at Arkansas State. He is now eight wins shy of 250 career wins over his 25 years as a head coach.
 
McClure's clean sheet extended her school record and marks the third win for A-State (3-3-1) this season coming in a shutout. The Red Wolves were out-shot by Central Arkansas (3-5-0) 17 to 13, but McClure stopped all five shots the Bears placed on goal.
 
After a Sarah Sodoma shot was saved at 6:49 of the first half, A-State regained possession and broke the scoring. Haley Husted served the ball over the top of the and Sodoma raced ahead on the right side, served the ball across where Emma Riley tapped it in with her right foot for her first career marker. Sodoma registered her 15th career assist while Husted was credited with her third career helper.
 
Central Arkansas forced McClure to make three first have stops and out-shot the Red Wolves 8-5 in the first 45 minutes. Shots were 9-8 in the second half, with A-State having one more shot on goal, 3-2, than the Bears.
 
A-State opens Sun Belt Conference play Friday, Sept. 18, against South Alabama at the A-State Soccer Park. Match time is set for 3:00 p.m. with free admission.
