COLUMBIA, Mo. (9/28/21) – An even-par 288 in the second round helped the Arkansas State women’s golf team climb to a tie for fourth heading into Wednesday’s final round of the Johnie Imes Invitational at The Club at Old Hawthorne. 

The even-par 288 total ranks tied for the sixth-best round in program history and marks the eighth par or better round in program history. All eight have come under the direction of head coach M.J. Desbiens Shaw and seven of the eight have come since the start of the 2019-20 season. A-State has totaled 590 (+14), tied with Illinois State, and is three strokes behind Oral Roberts (+11) for third. Host Missouri leads at 7-under par 569 with Wichita State second at 9-over par 585. 

Olivia Schmidt and Kayla Burke led A-State Tuesday with 1-under par 71 scores. For Schmidt, she cards her 17th career par or better round tying Grayson Gladden (2016-21) for the most in program history. Schmidt is at 3-over par for the tournament and tied for 19th while the career best round for Burke moved her from a tie for 55th after 18 holes to a tie for 31st entering the final round. 

Charlotte Menager birdied two of the final four holes to card a 1-over par 73 for the second consecutive round. Menager is the top A-State player in the individual standings as she is tied for 15th. Elise Schultz, who carded the second eagle of the season by an A-State player, posted a 1-over par 73 Tuesday and enters Wednesday at 4-over par and tied for 22nd while a 2-over par 74 has Casey Sommer tied for 34th at 8-over par for the tournament. Playing individually, Maria Jose Atristain Vega is 17-over par and tied for 68th following a second round 11-over par 83.
