MOBILE, Ala. (9/4/21) – Carding a 4-under par 68, Arkansas State women's golf junior Olivia Schmidt is tied for second individually and the Red Wolves are tied for sixth after the first round of the USA Intercollegiate at Magnolia Grove.
 
Schmidt, who carded the lowest round in program history with a 7-under par 65 in the final round of this tournament last season, had six birdies and two bogeys in the season opener. Kayla Burke and Elise Schultz are tied for 15th after an even-par performance Saturday. Casey Sommer, a transfer from Daytona State College, is tied for 41st at 3-over par 75 while true-freshman Charlotte Menager is tied for 74th at 6-over par 78. Madison Smith is tied for 90th at 9-over par.

A-State is tied for sixth with host South Alabama and Western Kentucky in the team standings with a total of 293 (+5). South Florida holds the 18-hole lead at 8-under par 280 with Middle Tennessee second at 282 (-6). Sam Houston (-3), Houston Baptist (E), and Troy (+2) round out the top five ahead of the Red Wolves in the 17-team field.
