FORT WORTH, Texas (1/23/22) – The Arkansas State women's tennis team opened the spring portion of the 2021-22 schedule this weekend at TCU's Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center and fell 6-1 to North Texas Saturday and 4-0 to TCU Sunday.
 
North Texas (2-0) swept the doubles point against the Red Wolves (0-2). The No. 1 pair of Thea Rice and Nejla Zukic fell 6-3 while Yasmine Humbert and Sofia Vdovychenko came up short on court two 7-5. Rebecca Brody and Emily Surcey dropped their matchup 6-3 on court three.
 
Sunday against TCU (4-0), Rice and Zukic saw their match against the TCU No. 1 pair end at 3-3 with the doubles point won over on courts No. 2 and No. 3. Humbert and Vdovychenko fell 6-0 and Brody and Surcey dropped a 6-1 decision to secure the doubles point for TCU.
 
Surcey was the lone winner in singles action against North Texas, picking up a 6-4, 6-1 win over Sake Oyama on court three. Surcey took the first set against Helena Narmont of TCU Sunday, but the match was unfinished. At No. 1 singles Sunday, Rice took the first set off Aleksa Cveticanin, but the match goes down as unfinished.
