Ragin’ Cajuns Rally Past A-State 4-3

LAFAYETTE, La. (3/19/22) – Leading 3-2 with two singles matches remaining, the Arkansas State women's tennis team saw Louisiana rally back to defeat the Red Wolves 4-3 Saturday at Cajun Courts.
 
A-State (4-8, 0-2 Sun Belt) won the doubles point for the second consecutive Sun Belt matchup, but Louisiana (6-5, 2-2 Sun Belt) took four singles matches to decide the outcome. The Red Wolves duo of Thea Rice and Nejla Zukic improved to 7-4 on the season with a 6-4 victory that clinched the doubles point on court one. Yasmine Humbert and Sofia Vdovychenko dropped their set 6-0 on court two, but Emily Surcey and Hunter Roper cruised to a 6-1 victory on court three.
 
After A-State had claimed the doubles point, the Ragin' Cajuns tied the match at 1-1 with Momoko Yoshimura winning 6-2, 6-0 over Vdovychenko on court five. Rice earned a 6-3, 6-1 win on court one over Catarina Zheng to give A-State the 2-1 lead, but Tanisha Kashyap downed Surcey 6-2, 6-1 to even the match at 2-2. Humbert gave the Red Wolves a 3-2 lead with a 6-4, 6-4 victory against Angel Santiago, but the Ragin' Cajuns pulled out wins on courts three and four to take the match. Zukic was topped by Lucie Raquin 6-4, 6-4 and Roper came up short in a tight three-set battle with Carla Ucrhoeguia 6-2, 4-6, 2-6.
