JONESBORO, Ark. (3/4/22) – The Arkansas State women's tennis team won the doubles point, but fell 5-2 to Texas State Friday in the Sun Belt Conference opener for both teams in the match played at the A-State Tennis Complex.
The top pair for A-State (4-6, 0-1 Sun Belt) of
Thea Rice and
Nejla Zukic improved to 6-3 this season taking their match 6-2 over the top pair from Texas State (3-6, 1-0 Sun Belt). Over on court three,
Emily Surcey and
Rebecca Brody topped the Bobcats duo 6-2 to clinch the point. At the time the point was clinched,
Yasmine Humbert and
Sofia Vdovychenko faced a 4-3 deficit on court two.
Surcey won her singles match over on court three, 6-2, 6-1, over Mae McCutcheon to give the Red Wolves the 2-0 advantage. Texas State took the remaining singles matches to win the match 5-2. Maria Lora topped
Yasmine Humbert 6-4, 6-4 on court five and Vdovychenko fell to Sofia Fortuno 6-4, 6-4 on court four to even the match. Zukic came up short on court two 6-3, 6-3 to Kate Malazonia and Hana Kvapilova 6-4, 7-5 win over Rice on court one sealed the match. Jadeh Chan clinced the fifth point of the match on court six with a 6-4, 6-2 decision over Brody.
