JONESBORO, Ark. (3/9/22) – Playing the non-conference finale Wednesday afternoon, the Arkansas State tennis team fell short of Southeast Missouri 4-3 at the A-State Tennis Complex.
SEMO (6-3) swept the doubles point to grab the early 1-0 advantage over A-State (4-7).
Yasmine Humbert and
Sofia Vdovychenko fell 6-1 on court two and
Emily Surcey and
Rebecca Brody dropped their match 6-3 on court three.
Thea Rice and
Nejla Zukic played out their match on court one with the Redhawks edging the pair 7-6.
Brody and Vdoychenko lost in straight sets on courts five and six to give SEMO a 3-0 lead, but the top of the lineup pulled the Red Wolves back into the match. Playing in the No. 2 singles spot for the first time this season, Surcey earned a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Daniela Hlacikova. Rice followed with a 6-1, 6-3 win over Romana Tarajova on court one to make it 3-2 in favor of the visitors. Zukic led 6-2, 5-2 when Myroslava Zelenchuk retired to even the match at 3-3, but
Hunter Roper came up short on court four 6-1, 6-2 to clinch the match for SEMO.
