JONESBORO, Ark. (4/15/22) – Despite taking a 1-0 lead by cruising to the doubles point victory, the Arkansas State women's tennis team fell to UT Arlington 4-1 Friday in the regular season finale at the A-State Tennis Complex.
A-State (6-14, 2-8 Sun Belt) took the doubles point for the seventh time in 10 league matches.
Emily Surcey and
Hunter Roper cruised to a 6-0 victory on court three and
Thea Rice and
Nejla Zukic clinched the doubles point with a 6-1 decision on court one. Rice and Zukic finish conference play 7-2 at No. 1 doubles.
Yasmine Humbert and
Sofia Vdovychenko came up short on court two, 6-2, but the doubles point went to the Red Wolves.
UT Arlington (21-2, 9-1 Sun Belt) took the match winning on courts two, four, five and six. The Mavericks evened the match with Sarina Reinertsen taking court five 6-0, 6-0 over Vdovychenko. UTA made it 2-1 with Ana Puala Jimenez downing
Yasmine Humbert 6-1, 6-2 on court six. Surcey fell short to Momoka Horiguchi 6-0, 6-3 on court two to make it 3-1 in favor of the visitors. Tara Gorinsek closed out the win for UTA with a 6-4, 6-3 win against Roper on court four. Rice led 7-5, 4-3 at No. 1 singles and Zukic carried a 3-1 lead in set two after falling in a tiebreak in the first set on court three.
