A-State Cross Country Totals 12 Personal Bests at Arturo Barrios Invitational

COLLEGE STATION, Texas (10/13/23) – Twelve total runners eclipsed personal-best marks on Friday morning, as the Arkansas State cross country squads competed in the Arturo Barrios Invitational at the Dale Watts Cross Country Course.

A-State's men earned a ninth-place team finish in the 8K, while the women's team placed 21st in the 6K event – its first 6K distance of the year. Seven men and five women topped their previous career bests.

Jacob Pyeatt led the Scarlet and Black in the men's 8K, placing 28th with a collegiate-best 23:55.4. Cash Kunkel clocked a personal-best 24:01.8 to place 34th, followed by Rylan Brown, who placed 66th with a career-best 24:25.5. Nati Enright (24:31.5) and Dawson Mayberry (24:31.7) set personal and season-best times, respectively, placing 80th and 81st.

Ethan Mychajlonka (158th – 25:07.4) and Noah McMurtrey (163rd – 25:08.3) also ran season and career bests, as did Jimmy Mann (182nd – 25:14.4). Jacob Lawrence clocked a season-best 25:51.1, while freshman Benny Brenneman rounded out the 10 runners with a collegiate-best 26:34.3.

In the women's 6K, Jaybe Shufelberger edged her previous career best, finishing 42nd with a time of 20:32.8 to lead the Red Wolves. Rahel Broemmel followed in 68th, crossing the line in 20:53.9. Elizabeth Martin (96th – 21:07.7) and Cadence Lapp (168th – 21:46.8) achieved career-best marks, while Olivia Walter (188th – 21:57.2) rounded out A-State's scorers.

Mary Beth Bailey ran a career-best 22:17.5, while freshman Abbey Coberly completed her first collegiate 6K race in 23:01.6. Maggie Hunter clocked a personal-best time of 23:15.8, with Sophey Pope finishing in 23:30.3.

NEXT UP
Arkansas State looks to add to its conference title count in its next competition, competing at the Sun Belt Conference Championships in Foley, Ala., on Oct. 28. The men are seeking their third consecutive league crown, while the women are looking to capture their fourth title in five seasons.
