LAWRENCE, Kan. (10/13/23) - Winners of seven matches on Thursday, the Arkansas State women's tennis team added three more victories Friday at the ITA Central Region Championships contested at the Jayhawk Tennis Center.

"It was another good day for our ladies," said A-State head coach Sujay Lama. "We are super happy for Nejla to qualify for the main draw and win a round, all while coming back from an ankle surgery which is quite remarkable. Seniors Rebecca (Brody) and Yasmine (Humbert) stepping up to win their first-round doubles against Arkansas was big. Once again, we wrapped the day with a resounding singles win in consolation. This time it was Rebecca, who prides herself on being the fittest athlete."

Playing in the main draw of singles, Nejla Zukic advanced to the round of 64 with a 6-4, 6-3 win over Maragaux Guibal Britt of SIU Edwardsville. Playing for a spot in the round of 32, Zukic fell 4-6, 1-6 to Lenka Stara of Arkansas. Rebecca Brody came up short to Maja Pietrowicz of Nebraska 1-6, 3-6 in a round of 128 contest, but defeated Zoe Adkins of Omaha 6-4, 6-2 in the consolation draw to advance to the round of 16 Saturday.

In doubles action, Brody and Yasmine Humbert teamed up to down a duo from Arkansas 8-3 in the round of 64. Brody and Humbert fell 4-8 against a pair from Nebraska to end their doubles run. Zukic and Sarah Millard were dealt a 5-8 defeat against another pair from Nebraska. Abigail Thurmer and Emiliya Margolin suffered a 0-8 setback against an Oklahoma duo.

"The girls battled and really represented our BEAST model to a tee," said Brody, "I'm excited about the rest of the tournament! Upwards and onwards."
