A-State Volleyball Sweeps Marshall Friday

JONESBORO, Ark. (11/10/23) – Kaitlin Whitlock recorded a double-double with 18 kills and 13 digs to help the Arkansas State volleyball team sweep Marshall Friday night inside First National Bank Arena.

A-State (14-13, 4-11 SBC) limited the Thundering Herd (12-17, 4-11) to a .106 hitting percentage while hitting .212 as a squad. The Scarlet and Black served seven aces in the contest.

Whitlock's performance marked her team-leading 11th double-double of the season, and she owned a .350 clip on the night.

Yazmyn Billings added 12 kills on a .417 attack percentage to go along with three blocks. Erin Madigan handed out 39 assists with 10 digs, while Sarah Martinez corralled 22 digs.

The Red Wolves took early control in the opening set, and did not give up the lead en route to a 25-19 first-set victory. Martinez clinched the frame with one of her two aces.

A-State built an early five-point lead in the second set, but the Herd battled back to tie it at 15-all. After Marshall tied it at 19, three straight kills put the Red Wolves ahead 22-19, and then Madigan later found Billings for a kill to clinch the 25-23 set win.

Whitlock opened the third set with a kill and helped the Red Wolves to an early five-point lead following a block by her and Haley Glunz. The visitors rallied to tie it at 14, but a 5-0 run pushed A-State's lead back out to 19-14. An ace by Martinez set up match point, and then Whitlock followed two points later with a kill to seal the match.
