JONESBORO, Ark. (11/30/23) – Arkansas State's volleyball season came to a close Thursday night, as the team dropped a 3-0 (25-17, 25-20, 25-19) decision to Wichita State inside Charles Koch Arena.

A-State (16-15) finished the season in a postseason tournament for the first time since the 2018 season and edged the Shockers (22-8) 47-46 in the digs category.

Abby Harris and Tegan Seyring tied for the match lead with nine kills, with Seyring adding three blocks. Kaitlin Whitlock added eight kills with 17 digs to lead all players, while Mia Maloney collected 13 digs.

Wichita State, which hit .308 in the contest, opened with a 10-6 lead in the first set before the Scarlet and Black rallied to tie it at 10. The hosts then used a 10-2 run to take a 20-12 lead following an ace by Gabi Maas. A Seyring kill pulled A-State within five, but WSU secured four of the last five points to take a 1-0 lead in the match.

The hosts led by as much as nine in the second set before the Red Wolves rallied to within three after Seyring and Brianna Hollingshed combined for a block to make it 22-19 WSU. Barbara Koehler – who was one of three Shockers with nine kills – later clinched the set with a kill to put the count at 2-0 in the contest.

Looking to extend the match, Arkansas State surged to an early 6-3 lead on a kill by Whitlock to begin the third frame, but Wichita State answered to take an 11-9 lead. A kill by Hollingshed and an ace by Erin Madigan knotted up the score at 11. The Red Wolves continued to remain within a point before tying it at 17 on a kill by Haley Glunz.
