A-State Falls at Little Rock, 77-66

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (12/1/23) – Arkansas State men's basketball owned a four-point halftime lead, but Little Rock used a 20-0 second-half run to take a 77-66 decision over the Red Wolves Friday night inside the Jack Stephens Center.

A-State (2-6) shot 36.1 percent (22-61) from the field and outscored the Trojans (4-4) 30-24 in the paint. The Red Wolves shot 36.1 percent (22-61) from the field while Little Rock shot it at a 45.6 percent (26-57) clip with four players in double figures.

Dyondre Dominguez led all players with a career-high 20 points off the bench to accompany seven rebounds. Derrian Ford added a career-best 16 points and five boards, while Taryn Todd tallied nine points in reserve.

Cougar Downing led the hosts with 18 points, joined by Jamir Chaplin (17), Bradley Douglas (16) and DeAntoni Gordon (14) in double digits.

A-State struck first and led by as much as four before the Trojans went on a 6-0 run to take a 25-22 lead with 4:48 left in the half. After Fields knocked down a trey to tie it at 25, a layup by Douglas put the hosts back ahead 27-25 with 2:56 remaining. The Red Wolves held Little Rock scoreless for the rest of the half and closed with Dominguez capping a run of six unanswered points with a thunderous dunk off of a Todd steal.

The Trojans came out of intermission with a 10-3 run, taking a 37-34 lead, but A-State reclaimed a 42-40 edge when a Todd floater found the net with 14 minutes left. Little Rock then surged ahead with a 20-0 run that spanned 5 minutes of game clock to open up a 60-42 lead that the Red Wolves could not surmount.

Dominguez drained a trey with 4:33 remaining to pull the Scarlet and Black within nine, but the Red Wolves ultimately could not close the gap

Arkansas State continues its road swing Monday with a top-25 test at No. 23/20 Alabama. Tip-off against the Crimson Tide (5-2) is slated for 7 p.m. inside Coleman Coliseum.
