MEMPHIS, Tenn. (10/12/24) – Arkansas State wrapped up play on Saturday at the ITA Central Regional Championships, picking up a pair of doubles wins at the Leftwich Tennis Center.
A-State finished the tournament with 17 total victories – 13 in singles and four in doubles. Six of those victories came over Power Conference opponents, including five in singles play.
"Just a great couple of days for our ladies," head coach Sujay Lama said. "So many exhilarating matches, improbable comebacks and breakthroughs. I could not be prouder of the fight, resilience and commitment of this team. We are breaking barriers each day and there is so much to look forward to."
Lily Cvanciger and Abigail Thurmer teamed up for the first time in doubles and defeated a Central Arkansas duo 8-7(2), while Anna Grigoreva and Sarah Millard were up 3-0 against Memphis before the Tigers retired.
Loles Carbo Chova and Carla Muro Castellvi dropped a tough 8-5 decision to another pair from Memphis.
Muro Castellvi also took the court in singles, dropping a hard-fought 3-6, 6-1, 1-0(6) outcome to Arkansas' Katie Ferguson.
A-State returns to action Oct. 25-27, hosting the Scarlet and Black Open at the A-State Tennis Complex.
