A-State Completes Weekend Sweep of ULM Saturday

JONESBORO, Ark. (10/12/24) – Arkansas State volleyball completed a weekend sweep over ULM, defeating the Warhawks in three (25-9, 25-18, 25-18) Saturday afternoon inside First National Bank Arena.

A-State (15-3, 5-1 SBC) swept the Warhawks (4-14, 0-6) for the second day in a row, marking the first time since 2018 that the Red Wolves had earned back-to-back 3-0 victories over a conference foe. The Scarlet and Black improved to 7-0 on its home court – the most wins at home since winning eight in 2018 – and extended its home winning streak to nine matches dating back to last season.

The Red Wolves held ULM to an attack percentage of just .009 – the lowest allowed this season and the lowest mark allowed since holding App State to .000 in 2021. Sarah Martinez led the way defensively with 15 digs and moved into ninth in program history in career digs over the weekend, totaling 1,268 in her two-plus seasons at A-State. Mia Maloney added 13 digs while Kaitlin Whitlock had 11. Haley Glunz led the way at the net with five blocks.

On the offensive side of the net, Devyn Lewis and Grace Wiley tied for a match-high eight kills, with Lewis hitting .333 on 24 error-free swings. Abby Harris also did not commit an attack error, tying her season high with seven kills on 14 attacks, while Whitlock matched her with seven kills. Erin Madigan had a team-leading 19 assists and served a career-high three aces.

The Red Wolves dominated the opening set, holding the Warhawks to -.125 hitting to win the frame 25-9. A-State never trailed and used a 9-0 run started by a Lewis kill to push its lead out to 13. Whitlock tallied her third kill of the frame to clinch the set and give her squad a one-set advantage.

ULM owned a 15-14 lead midway through the second set, but that lead would be short-lived as A-State stormed ahead with another 9-0 run to lead 23-15. After a pair of Warhawk points, Glunz and Daedrianna Cail accounted for two of the last three points of the frame to give the Scarlet and Black a commanding two-set lead.

Cail sparked a 3-0 A-State run to start the third set, but the Warhawks managed to pull ahead and lead 15-11 following a trio of aces by Sydney Garrison. Two points later, with ULM leading 16-12, the Red Wolves took an 18-16 advantage on a 6-0 run capped by a Wiley kill. ULM only scored twice more in the match, as A-State claimed seven of the final nine points to seal the sweep.
