Red Wolves Battle to Draw Against Texas State, 2-2

SAN MARCOS, Texas (10/4/24) – Arkansas State women's soccer (3-3-3, 0-2-1 SBC) took a 2-1 advantage into the second period against Texas State (6-3-4, 2-0-2 SBC), but a late goal would force a 2-2 tie on Friday night at the Bobcat Soccer Complex.
 
Emma Riley and Keelyn Peacock recorded the goals for A-State while Emma Riales led the team with five shots. Damaris Deschaine recorded seven saves over 90 minutes of action, leading both teams in the category.
 
The Bobcats outshot the Scarlet and Black 20-12 while both teams had the same number of corner kicks (six).
 
Texas State opened the scoring with a goal from Kaylie Smith in the 18th minute, taking a 1-0 advantage. Riley tied the game in the 25th minute thanks to an assist from Riales, while Peacock put the Red Wolves ahead with a shot in the low left corner during the 41st minute.
 
The Bobcats outshot A-State 9-3 in the second half and tied the game at two goals apiece following a penalty kick from Sydney Bassa in the 66th minute.
 
The Scarlet and Black's last shot of the contest came from Riley Whisenhunt, who bounced the shot off the right post in the 74th minute. Deschaine recorded a save in the 85th minute and Texas State missed high in the 89th as the match came to a close.
 
NEXT UP
A-State travels to the bayou for a match against ULM on Thursday, Oct. 10, with kickoff set for 6:00 p.m.
