A-State’s Pyeatt Earns Runner-Up Finish Saturday at Live in Lou XC Classic

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (10/5/24) – Jacob Pyeatt earned a runner-up finish in the men's 8K on Saturday, highlighting a strong day for Arkansas State cross country at the 23rd annual Live in Lou Cross Country Classic, held at E.P. "Tom" Sawyer Park.

A-State placed 10th in the team standings for the men's race, while the women's squad finished 11th in the 5K behind seven personal-best marks. Three men ran collegiate-best times, giving both squads 10 career-best performances on the day.

Pyeatt shattered his previous personal-best time by over 20 seconds, clocking a time of 23:34.5 in his runner-up finish. Freshman Evan Stevens was the second Red Wolf to cross, finishing 48th (24:47.8). Dawson Mayberry ran 24:55.4 to place 62nd, followed by Nati Enright in 67th with a mark of 24:57.9. Benny Brenneman rounded out A-State's scoring five with an 89th-place time of 25:13.5, a career best.

Four other runners finished but did not score. Freshman Avinash Patel was 144th (25:48.6) and Grayson Young placed 177th (26:10.6). Matthew Dunsworth (193rd) ran a collegiate-best 26:20.7, with Andrew Mason (236th) crossing in 27:06.3.

In the women's 5K, Maja Dzialoszewska paced the field with a season-best 17:32.7 to place 25th. Olivia Walter ran a career-best 18:07.6 in a 66th-place result, while Delaney Mulick clocked a collegiate-best 18:13.1 to place 75th. Sammy Mason ran a career-best 18:38.1, placing 115th, with Madison Haldiman rounding out the five point-scorers with a personal-best 18:53.0 to place 142nd.

Lizzee Winkler finished in a career-best 18:54.1 (147th), while Anna Hunter crossed in a season-best 19:14.7. Ivanna Hargis (203rd) finished the distance in 19:31.1, with Malena Cybak (216th) following in a season-best 19:40.2. Sophey Pope (221st – 19:47.9) and Kat Schaefer (234th – 20:01.5) rounded out the squad, registering career-best times.

NEXT UP

A-State faces one more tune-up ahead of the conference championships, traveling to College Station, Texas, for the Arturo Barrios Invitational on Friday, Oct. 18.
