FOLEY, Ala. (11/1/24) – Jacob Pyeatt led from start-to-finish en route to an individual title, while the Arkansas State men's and women's cross country teams finished second in the team standings on Friday morning at the Sun Belt Conference Championships, held at the Graham Creek Nature Preserve.
In the men's race, A-State totaled 46 points to finish as runner-up behind App State. The women's squad edged Marshall for second, totaling 106 points. Since 2019, the Red Wolves have finished no worse than third at the conference cross country championships.
Pyeatt led a 1-2 finish for the Scarlet and Black in the men's 8K, becoming the first A-State men's runner since Bennett Pascoe in 2020 to win the individual crown, running a time of 23:52.8.
Nati Enright was runner-up with a time of 24:24.4, with freshman
Evan Stevens finishing ninth in 24:57.6. Pyeatt and Enright garnered First Team All-SBC finishes – with Pyeatt being named the league's Runner of the Year – while Stevens was a second-team performer.
Avinash Patel (25:19.8) and
Benny Brenneman (25:29.2) earned top-20 finishes to round out A-State's scoring five, placing 16
th and 18
th.
Grayson Young ran 25:38.7 to place 22
nd, with
Dawson Mayberry running a time of 26:02.4 to place 28
th.
Matthew Dunsworth finished 45
th, clocking a time of 27:08.5.
Maja Dzialoszewska led the way for the women's team, placing 12
th with a time of 18:00.3 to earn Third Team All-SBC honors.
Delaney Mulick was the second to cross in 18
th place (18:17.7), with
Olivia Walter following in 23
rd (18:28.6).
Sammy Mason clocked a season-best 18:35.3 to place 25
th, while
Lizzee Winkler ran a career-best 18:40.9 to finish 28
th.
Madison Haldiman recorded a time of 19:00.9 in her 45
th-place finish, followed by
Anna Hunter in 52
nd with a season-best 19:13.6.
Ivanna Hargis also recorded a personal-best, placing 61
st in 19:29.3.
