JONESBORO, Ark. (11/14/24) – Three-time Texas state champion Meghna Arun Kumar has signed with Arkansas State women's tennis, head coach Sujay Lama announced Thursday.

Arun Kumar boasts a career-high ITF women's ranking of 1025 and has never dropped a set in four years of high school tennis, competing for Argyle High School. She won her first ITF women's point and made her WTA debut at the age of 14.

"Meghna will be a great addition to the A-State tennis family," Lama said. "She is an incredible student, an outstanding tennis player and just a good human being who is a great team player. Her strength is her mental toughness and ability to perform under pressure. We have no doubt that she will be an impact player who will continue to raise the bar for our program both on and off the court."

This past summer, she competed in numerous pro events, recording a win over current North Carolina freshman Susanna Maltby – the nation's top-ranked singles player out of high school and a blue-chip recruit – as well as Ohio State sophomore Alessia Cau.

"The moment I stepped foot on campus, I knew Arkansas State University was the one for me," Arun Kumar said. "The sense of family made me feel like I have found a new home."

Arun Kumar is not only a star on the court, but in the classroom as well. She boasts a GPA of over 4.0 and intends to graduate a semester early. She also has received a letter from a state congressional member for her achievements as a student-athlete.
