LAFAYETTE, La. (2/17/24) – Arkansas State women's basketball dropped a 59-46 decision at Louisiana Saturday afternoon inside the Cajundome.
A-State (13-12, 6-8 SBC) shot just 28.3 percent from the floor, while the Ragin' Cajuns (12-12, 7-7) outscored the Red Wolves 35-22 in the second half and owned a 40-29 advantage on the glass.
Izzy Higginbottom scored a team-high 14 points, going 8-for-8 from the foul line, while Anna Griffin added 10 points and a 4-for-4 mark at the charity stripe.
Louisiana's Jaylyn James led all players with 17 points and Tamera Johnson recorded 13 points and 14 rebounds. As a team, the Cajuns shot 42.1 percent from the field and 60 percent from 3-point range on 9-of-15.
The Cajuns owned an early lead in the opening quarter before a 7-0 run capped by a Griffin trey gave the Red Wolves a 12-7 lead with 4:15 left. Louisiana then closed the period on a 6-0 run to lead 13-12 after one.
After Rice opened the second quarter with a jumper to make it 15-12, A-State went on an 8-0 run and held the hosts scoreless for nearly seven minutes en route to a 20-15 advantage with 3 minutes left in the half. The Cajuns then reclaimed a 24-22 lead at the 1:18 mark on a trey by Williams, but Wilkerson scored in the waning seconds to send the teams into the half knotted at 24-all.
Louisiana outscored the Red Wolves 21-3 in the third quarter to lead 45-27 entering the final 10 minutes, and then took its largest lead – up 19 with under 8 minutes remaining in the contest. A-State pulled within 13 inside the final minute, but could not complete the comeback.

A-State returns home for four straight to end the regular season, beginning Wednesday at 7 p.m. against Troy. The game will be broadcasted live on ESPN Plus, and the radio broadcast can be heard on KBTM 102.1 and 1230 AM.
