JONESBORO, Ark. (2/24/24) – Arkansas State women's basketball (13-14, 6-10 SBC) had to fight from behind against Southern Miss (16-11, 9-7 SBC), eventually falling by a score of 70-59 on Saturday afternoon at First National Bank Arena.

Lauryn Pendleton led A-State in scoring with 18 while Anna Griffin also reached double digits with 14. Emma Imevbore led the rebounding effort with nine boards while Wynter Rogers recorded a team-high four assists.

As a team, the Scarlet and Black shot 21-for-66 (32 percent) from the field and 5-for-24 (21 percent) from 3-point range. The team out-rebounded their opponent 39-32 and won the turnover battle 13-11.

The Lady Eagles used a 12-0 run to take an early 15-5 advantage, but back-to-back threes from Griffin and Rogers put the Red Wolves back within reach. Southern Miss went on another run before A-State cut into the deficit again, but the Scarlet and Black trailed by eight going into the second.

Southern Miss extended the lead to 14 at the 6:12 mark after outscoring the Red Wolves 8-2 to open the second. Once again, the Red Wolves chipped away at the deficit and entered halftime trailing 41-34.

Pendleton led all scorers at the break with 12 points as the team finished 11-of-29 (38 percent) from the field and 4-of-11 (36 percent) from deep.

The Lady Eagles began to pull away during the third quarter after opening up a 12-point advantage on a 3-pointer from Domonique Davis. The Scarlet and Black were able to cut the deficit to eight points, but Southern Miss scored six of the last eight to enter the fourth ahead 58-46.

The Red Wolves cut the deficit to single digits with 5:28 to go, but it would not last long as the Lady Eagles finished with an 11-point victory. Pendleton has 999 career points following the contest, needing only one point to become the 28th 1,000-point scorer in A-State history.
