ARLINGTON, Texas (9/16/24) – The Arkansas State women's golf team carded a program-record 36-hole total of 12-under par 564 to lead seven other teams in the UT Arlington Maverick Classic at Tierra Verde Golf Club.
A-State turned in an 8-under par 280 in the first round and backed it up with a 4-under par 284 in the second round. The Red Wolves first round total was two strokes shy of the program record low round of 278 set just last week at the Golfweek Fall Challenge. The 8-under 280 is the best team total on a par-72 course in program history. A-State and Tarleton State (-6) were the only teams to finish under par after 36 holes. Little Rock (+4), Texas A&M Commerce (+4), UT Arlington (+6), Incarnate Word (+31), Lamar (+41) and Prairie View A&M (+70) round out the eight teams in the field.
Ashley Kim totaled 8-under par 136, the second-lowest 36-hole total in program history to tie Elenore Aernouts of Little Rock for the individual lead. Kim posted an opening round 6-under par 66 for the second-lowest round in program history. The pair of rounds at par or better give Kim 11 on her young career, tied with Anna Carling (2010-13) for the eighth-most in program history.
Including Kim, six of A-State's nine players had a round of par or better Monday. Anne-Lea Lavoie bettered her best career 36-hole total by four strokes posting 5-under par 139 (70-69) to tie for third. Playing as an individual, Charlotte Menager was five strokes better than her best 36-hole total registering 4-under par 140 (69-71) to tie for fifth. Morgan Beaulieu was also par or better in both rounds tying for seventh with a total of 3-under par 141 (72-69).
Sofia Bastidas, playing as an individual, is tied for 17th at 3-over par 147 (74-73) while Olivia Coit is tied for 19th at 4-over par 148 (72-76). Playing as an individual, Shannon Berry posted her career low round of even-par 72 in the opening round and totaled 5-over par 149 (72-77) to tie for 22nd. Madison Tenore totaled 7-over par 151 (75-76) to tie for 27th. Caroline Hughes made her collegiate debut and joined Tenore in a tie for 27th at 7-over par 151 (78-73).
