NASHVILLE, Tenn. (9/20/24) – Arkansas State tennis won four doubles matches on Friday afternoon for a strong start to the fall slate at the Belmont/Lipscomb Invitational.
The Red Wolves opened the day cruising to three wins over co-host Lipscomb. At the No. 1 spot, Lily Cvanciger and Anna Grigoreva teamed up to rout Serafima Bobrovnikova and Mariya Dolzhenko, 6-1. Sarah Millard and Carla Muro Castellvi also earned a 6-1 victory, defeating Deborah Dominguez Callado and Sofiia Paladi. At No. 3, Ariadna Fernandez and Abigail Thurmer won a 6-2 decision over Kameliia Tytarenko and Sonya Zhylchuk to complete the sweep over the Bisons.
A-State then took on three doubles tandems from East Tennessee State – the 2024 Southern Conference champions and NCAA Tournament participant which also held a national ranking. Millard and Muro Castellvi completed their 2-0 day with a 6-4 victory over Ralitsa Alexandrova and Jana Rovira. Cvanciger and Grigoreva dropped a tight 7-5 decision to ETSU's Alessandra Caceres and Linge Steenkamp, while Fernandez and Thurmer also dropped a close 7-5 outcome to Julia Millan and Ksenija Rage.
The final round of doubles play is set for 9 a.m. Saturday, with singles to follow at 10 a.m. versus Lipscomb. The second round of singles action is slated for a 2 p.m. start. Sunday marks the conclusion of the tournament with the final round of singles play.
