MEMPHIS, Tenn. (9/21/24) – Arkansas State women's cross country captured the team title on Saturday morning at the Rhodes Invitational, fueled by five top-20 finishers.
Saturday marked the fourth consecutive year that A-State won the women's team crown at Rhodes, totaling 70 points in the victory. The Red Wolves' men's team placed eighth in the team standings.
Freshman Mia Conroy paced the Scarlet and Black in the women's 6K, placing 11th with a time of 23:52.56. Lizzee Winkler (23:59.35) and Kat Schaefer (24:09.64) followed in 14th and 15th, with Anna Hunter (17th, 24:20.62) and Sophey Pope (18th, 24:22.37) rounding out the team's scorers. Ivanna Hargis (27th, 24:36.87) and Malena Cybak (38th, 25:02.59) finished as A-State's displacers.
Devyn O'Daniel placed 48th (25:16.52) to lead the Red Wolves not factoring into scoring, followed closely in 49th by Erika Kruger (25:16.53). Abbey Coberly was 56th with a time of 25:27.64, ahead of Nika Gividen (25:34.14) in 59th. Hannah McLaughlin rounded out the squad in 65th, running a career-best 25:55.14.
A-State had six finishers in the men's 8K, led by Noah McMurtrey, who placed 20th with a time of 26:29.42. Andrew Mason was 33rd, crossing in 26:53.31, while Zeke McCain ran 27:09.50 to place 39th. A pair of freshmen rounded out the scoring five, as Gabe Falting (27:24.62) and Ian Horton (28:20.18) placed 49th and 69th, respectively. Reid Gulstrom rounded out the squad, placing 95th with a mark of 29:05.23.
