PAWLEYS ISLAND, S.C. (9/8/24) – Freshman Jake Wallis and senior Jack Maxey are tied for third with rounds of 4-under par 68 to help the Arkansas State men's golf team lead the Golfweek Fall Challenge after the first of three rounds at True Blue Golf Club.
Wallis carded five birdies and a bogey in his collegiate debut while Maxey opened his senior season with six birdies and a pair of bogeys in the opening round. The pair are tied for third two strokes back of Patton Samuels of Austin Peay and Brock Rumpke of Wright State for the individual lead.
Sophomore Jake Lile finished up the day at 3-under par 69 while Thomas Schmidt and Pierce Johnson were even. Lile is tied for eighth while Schmidt and Johnson are inside the top 25, tied for 24th. Sophomore Milan Reed made his A-State debut and finished up at 1-over par 73 to tie for 30th.
At 11-under par 277, A-State holds a five-stroke lead over Austin Peay (-6) for second. Wright State (-4), Richmond (-2), Stetson (E) and Presbyterian (E) round out the top five teams and ties.
