Red Wolves Split Sunday Doubleheader at Tulsa

TULSA, Okla. (1/12/25) – Arkansas State women's tennis split a pair of outcomes Sunday, concluding the Hurricane Invite inside the Michael D. Case Tennis Center.

A-State (2-1) swept Wyoming 7-0 while dropping a 5-2 decision to host Tulsa, giving it its first 2-1 start through the first three matches since 2019.

"It was a great start to the year with the girls," said freshman Carla Muro Castellvi, who went 3-0 in singles and 2-1 in doubles over the weekend. "We competed hard and fought for every point and built confidence for future matches. I look forward to competing with my teammates and making more memories with them."

In the sweep over the Cowgirls, the Red Wolves claimed wins at the No. 1 and No. 3 positions in doubles before winning all six singles bouts.

Anna Grigoreva and Muro Castellvi defeated Violetta Borodina and Elena Trencheva 6-2 at No. 1, while Hanmare McAslin and Sarah Millard topped Serina Abriola and Ruby Young 6-2 at the No. 3 slot. Lily Cvanciger and Abigail Thurmer dropped a 6-3 decision at No. 2 to Eugenia Ceinos and Anastasiia Kochelaevskaia.

In singles, Grigoreva bested Borodina 7-5, 6-1, while Cvanciger routed Kochelaevskaia 6-0, 6-1. Millard notched a 7-5, 6-2 win at No. 3 over Ceinos, and McAslin defeated Young 6-3, 7-5. Muro Castellvi remained unbeaten in dual match singles play with a 6-4, 6-3 win over Trencheva, as did Loles Carbo Chova, who won 6-0, 4-6, 1-0(8) over Abriola.

Against Tulsa, A-State dropped a 5-2 decision but had singles wins by Muro Castellvi and Carbo Chova. Muro Castellvi defeated Erin McKenzie 7-5, 2-6, 6-4, while Carbo Chova won 6-3, 6-2 over Saniya Singh.

McAslin and Millard earned a 6-4 doubles win against Isabella Basson and Singh at No. 3. The Golden Hurricane clinched the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and No. 2.

The Red Wolves return home Friday, hosting Missouri State indoors at Trim Gym in Jonesboro. Match time is slated for 5 p.m.
