JONESBORO, Ark. (1/17/25) – Arkansas State women's tennis continued its strong start to the 2025 dual-match slate, routing Missouri State 6-1 inside the Trim Gym's indoor facility.

The Red Wolves improved to 3-1 for the first time since 2006, with a pair of freshmen – Loles Carbo Chova and Carla Muro Castellvi – remaining unbeaten in dual-match singles play to open the year.

MSU (0-1) earned a singles win at the No. 3 slot, but it was not enough to overcome the early 3-0 deficit following wins by Lily Cvanciger and Anna Grigoreva.

"The energy in the team was electric from the beginning since we were so excited about our first home match," said Cvanciger, who clinched in doubles and also won a singles match. "We wanted it that much that we simply didn't see other option than to win the match. Now, it's time to bring this energy into our next matches as well! I am so proud of everyone on this team. We really did our best and we need to bring our best next time too."

A-State earned the doubles point for the third time in its first four matches with a pair of 6-2 wins at No. 1 and No. 2. Grigoreva and Muro Castellvi topped Billar Gonlusen and Tuana Gunal, while Cvanciger and Abigail Thurmer defeated Lucy Latham and Nicole Ross.

After the point was clinched, Carbo Chova and Sarah Millard dropped a tough 6-4 decision to Sandra Lukacova and Raluca Puscas at the No. 3 position.

The Red Wolves took a 2-0 lead in the match when Cvanciger bested Latham 6-3, 6-2, and then Grigoreva won a 6-4, 6-4 match against Gunal to make it 3-0.

The Lady Bears picked up a singles point at No. 3 when Ross outlasted Millard 0-6, 7-6(6), 6-3).

Carbo Chova clinched the match with a 7-5, 6-1 win at No. 5 singles over Lukacova, and then Muro Castellvi won 6-3, 7-6(3) over Gonlusen to make it 5-1.

Ariadna Fernandez concluded the night at No. 6 singles, holding off Romy Pols 6-4, 4-6, 1-0(5) in the 10-point third-set tiebreaker.

The Red Wolves return to action Sunday, traveling to Ole Miss (1-0). First serve inside the William F. Gaultney Indoor Tennis Facility in Oxford, Miss., is slated for 11 a.m.
