Red Wolves Fall 76-62 at South Alabama

MOBILE, Ala. (1/9/25) – Arkansas State men's basketball dropped a 76-62 decision at South Alabama Thursday night inside the Mitchell Center.

Taryn Todd led A-State (11-5, 2-2 SBC) with 18 points and was one of three players in double figures. Joseph Pinion had 17 points and a career-high nine rebounds while Terrance Ford Jr. added 12.

The Red Wolves shot 31.3 percent on 21-of-67 shooting, going 12-for-49 from 3-point range and 8-of-9 at the free-throw line. Defensively, A-State forced the hosts into 11 turnovers resulting in 17 points.

USA (12-4, 4-0) remained unbeaten in league play and shot 56.5 percent (26-46) from the floor and 50 percent (12-24) from beyond the arc. The Jaguars also won the rebounding battle 37-34. Five Jaguars finished with double-digit scoring totals, led by Elijah Ormiston's game-high 22 points.

The Red Wolves created havoc defensively early, forcing five turnovers and leading 9-3. The Jaguars then caught fire from the perimeter to go on a 9-0 run and lead 16-12. Derrian Ford leveled the score midway through the half, banking in a three to make it 18-all. A 15-5 run by the hosts expanded the deficit to 33-23 before an 8-3 stretch pulled A-State back within five. USA closed with five straight to end the period, capped by a four-point play by Ormiston to make it 41-31 at the break.

After the Jaguars stretched their lead to 13 to open the half, a Pinion trey pulled A-State back to within 10. South Alabama's largest lead of the night came on a layup by John Broom to make it a 21-point affair with 3:09 remaining.
