JONESBORO, Ark. (10/31/25) – Coming off his first collegiate victory at The Saint Mary's Invitational, Arkansas State men's golfer Jake Wallis has been named the Sun Belt Conference Golfer of the Month, the league office announced Friday.

Across two tournaments played in October, Wallis carried a 68.50 scoring average with all six rounds par or better, including four in the 60s. Most recently, Wallis was individual medalist at The Saint Mary's Invitational turning in a 12-under par 204 for his first collegiate victory. Prior to that, he finished third at A-State's Bubba Barnett Intercollegiate at 9-under par 207.

Winners of each of its last three events, the A-State men's golf team is receiving five votes in the latest Bushnell/Golfweek Division I Coaches Poll. The Red Wolves were No. 36 in the latest National Collegiate Golf Rankings by Scoreboard, fifth highest among Group of Six programs.

Thomas Schmidt, the Sun Belt Golfer of the Month for September, ranks 29th individually, fifth highest among Group of Six golfers. Wallis is ranked 104th, 18th among Group of Six players making A-State one of just four Group of Six programs — along with Charlotte, New Mexico, and Pepperdine — to have multiple players ranked inside the top 125 individually.

Schmidt, Wallis, and junior Milan Reed have each claimed individual medalist honors this season. Schmidt captured medalist honors in A-State's victory at the Mark Simpson Colorado Invitational, Reed earned his first collegiate title at the Bubba Barnett Intercollegiate.

The Red Wolves completed the fall schedule with a scoring average of 278.60, nearly seven shots better than the program record of 285.17 set last season. Four players – Schmidt (68.40), Wallis (69.20), Reed (70.47) and Jake Lile (71.47) – finish the fall slate with scoring averages below par. Five A-State golfers are among the top 700 nationally in the latest individual rankings.

A-State begins its spring slate March 15-17 at the Seminole Intercollegiate hosted by Florida State.
